The Fire Spray car fire extinguisher is a small, light spray can that fits under the seat, in the glove box or in a door pocket. It is made for the first few seconds of a fire, when a quick spray can stop a small flame in the dashboard, engine bay or boot before it grows. Why keep one in the car?

If your car catches fire
- Pull over safely, switch off the engine and get everyone out.
- Move away from traffic. Only use the spray if the fire is small and you have a clear way back.
- Aim at the base of the flame from a safe distance and spray in short sweeps.
- If smoke is coming from under the bonnet, do not open it wide; fresh air can make the fire grow.
- If the fire does not go out quickly, step well back and call 112 or the fire brigade on 101.
Storing and checking the spray
Fix or wedge the can so it cannot roll under the pedals while you drive. Once a month, check that the can has no dents or rust and that the cap and nozzle are in place. Keep it out of reach of children.
