The FireSpray foam type fire extinguisher is a portable unit for places where petrol, diesel, oil or paint is stored or handled. It is filled with AFFF (aqueous film forming foam), which spreads a blanket over a burning liquid, cuts off air and helps stop the fire from re-igniting. It also cools solid materials. Which fires does a foam type fire extinguisher put out?

• Class B: flammable liquids such as petrol, diesel, oil, paints and solvents.
• Class A: wood, paper, cloth, plastic and other solid materials.

Typical sites are fuel stations, garages, service centres, workshops, DG set areas and factories that store oil, paint or solvents.

What not to use it on

Foam is not for live electrical equipment. Switch off the power first, or use a CO2 fire extinguisher or a clean agent fire extinguisher on panels and wiring. Do not use it on deep fat fryer fires in a kitchen: cooking oil needs a type K fire extinguisher. Gas leaks and LPG fires are better handled with an ABC fire extinguisher.

6 L or 9 L: which size?

Mount the unit on a wall bracket or a fire extinguisher floor stand near the exit from the risk area, not right next to the fuel. In the open, keep it in a weatherproof box so sun and rain do not damage it.

How to use it on a liquid fire

1. Pull the safety pin.
2. Aim so the foam lands just in front of the burning liquid or runs off a nearby wall onto it. Do not aim straight into a pool of fuel, as that can splash it.
3. Squeeze the handle.
4. Sweep gently so the foam flows over the whole surface. For solid materials, aim at the base of the fire.

Keep the unit upright, stand back with an exit behind you, and leave at once if the fire grows. Once the fire is out, do not walk through the foam blanket, as it is what stops the fuel re-igniting.

Monthly check, no yearly refills

Once a month, check that the gauge needle is in the green zone, the pin and seal are intact, and the body has no dents or rust. A FireSpray unit stays factory-sealed, so there are no yearly refill visits. If a covered unit fails, we replace it under the warranty. Read more on refill vs replace.
