Type K fire extinguisher in a red mild steel body

The FireSpray type K fire extinguisher is our standard wet chemical unit for working kitchens. It has a red mild steel body, the everyday choice for restaurant cooking lines, dhabas and canteens where function matters more than finish. The wet chemical agent cools hot cooking oil and forms a soap-like layer on the surface that stops it from re-igniting. It carries the ISI mark, is pressure-tested at our factory and is covered by a 5-year warranty from the invoice date. It comes in 1 L, 2 L, 4 L, 6 L and 9 L; select a size above to see its price (plus GST).

Why a kitchen needs its own extinguisher

In a busy Indian kitchen, deep fryers, kadhais and tandoors run for hours, and an oil fire is one of the most likely emergencies. Burning oil is very hot. Water, or the wrong extinguisher, can make it splash and spread across the kitchen in seconds. The wet chemical in a type K unit is made for exactly this fire. It also works on solid materials such as wood, paper and cloth around the cooking area.

Typical sites:

  • Restaurants, dhabas and hotel kitchens
  • Canteens in offices, factories and hostels
  • Cloud kitchens and food courts
  • Home kitchens that fry often

What not to use it on

Do not use it on live electrical equipment. Switch off power and gas at the main if it is safe. For the kitchen’s electrical panel, keep a CO2 fire extinguisher. For the dining area, stores and LPG bank, an ABC type fire extinguisher is the right partner.

Red mild steel or stainless steel?

Model Body Best for
This type K fire extinguisher Red mild steel Back-of-house cooking lines, dhabas, canteens, home kitchens
Stainless steel K-type kitchen extinguisher Stainless steel Open show kitchens, hotels, premium modular home kitchens

Both use the same wet chemical protection. See every option in the kitchen fire extinguishers range.

Which size do I need?

Size Good for
1 L and 2 L Home kitchens, pantries, small cafes
4 L Small restaurants, cloud kitchens, hostel kitchens
6 L and 9 L Commercial cooking lines with fryers and tandoors

Keep it near the cooking line on the path to the exit, not above the stove, with a fire blanket beside it for small pan fires.

Specifications (as printed on our K-type label)

Operating pressure 6.9 bar (100 psi)
Discharge time 8 to 12 seconds
Effective range 2 to 4 metres
Mark ISI marked, BIS approved

How to use it on a cooking-oil fire

  1. Switch off the burner or fryer if you can do it safely.
  2. Pull the pin and stand back at least two metres.
  3. Aim the gentle spray at the oil surface from above, not as a hard jet into the oil.
  4. Squeeze and sweep slowly until the whole surface is covered and the flames are out.

Do not move the pan or fryer. Leave the oil to cool fully. Keep an exit behind you and leave if the fire spreads to the hood or duct.

Monthly check, no yearly refills

Once a month, check that the gauge needle is in the green zone, the pin and seal are intact, and grease has not built up on the body. A FireSpray unit stays factory-sealed, so there are no yearly refill visits. If a covered unit fails, we replace it. Read more on refill vs replace.

All questions
Which size type K fire extinguisher do I need for a restaurant?

For a commercial cooking line with fryers and tandoors, choose 6 L or 9 L. Smaller restaurants and cloud kitchens often use 4 L.

What is the body of this K-type extinguisher made of?

It has a red mild steel body. If you want a stainless steel finish for an open or premium kitchen, choose our stainless steel K-type model; the protection is the same.

Can I use a K-type extinguisher on a home kadhai fire?

Yes. Switch off the gas if it is safe, stand back and spray gently over the oil until it is covered. A 1 L or 2 L unit plus a fire blanket suits a home kitchen.

Can water put out a cooking-oil fire?

No. Water makes burning oil splash and spread. Use a wet chemical K-type extinguisher or cover the pan with a fire blanket.

What is a class K fire extinguisher?

An extinguisher for cooking oil and fat fires, using a wet chemical agent.

Which fire extinguisher is best for a restaurant kitchen?

A K-type wet chemical unit near the cooking line, plus a fire blanket, and ABC units elsewhere in the restaurant.
