Fire blanket price and sizes
If you are comparing fire blanket price and quality, start with what the blanket has to do. A FireSpray fire blanket smothers a small fire by cutting off its air. Pull the two tapes, the blanket drops out of its pouch, and you lay it over a burning pan or wrap it around a person whose clothes have caught fire. It needs no gauge and no refill, which makes it one of the simplest fire safety items to keep at home or at work. It comes in 1×2 m and 2×2 m; select a size above to see its price (plus GST).
Where a fire blanket helps most
- Home kitchens, especially near the gas stove
- Restaurant and hotel kitchens, beside the cooking line
- School and college labs, workshops and canteens
- Clothing fires, to wrap and smother the flames
What a blanket cannot do
A blanket is for small fires you can fully cover. It is not a replacement for an extinguisher. For a fryer or a larger cooking-oil fire, use a type K fire extinguisher. For furniture, wiring and LPG fires in the rest of the home, keep an ABC type fire extinguisher. If a fire is bigger than the blanket, leave and call the fire brigade on 101.
Blanket, extinguisher or both?
| Place | What to keep |
|---|---|
| Home kitchen | Fire blanket plus a small kitchen fire extinguisher or ABC unit at the exit |
| Restaurant or hotel kitchen | Fire blanket beside a K-type unit at the cooking line |
| Open or premium kitchen | Fire blanket with the stainless steel K-type extinguisher |
| School lab or workshop | Fire blanket plus a CO2 fire extinguisher for equipment |
Comparing sizes and fire blanket price
| Size | Good for |
|---|---|
| 1×2 m | Home kitchens, pantries, small cafes |
| 2×2 m | Commercial kitchens, labs, and wrapping a person |
When you compare fire blanket price between sellers, check the size you are actually getting, whether GST is shown separately, and whether a replacement is offered if the blanket arrives damaged.
How to use it on a person
- Tell the person to stop, drop to the floor and roll.
- Pull the tapes and hold the blanket up in front of you to shield your hands.
- Wrap it around them firmly to smother the flames, working from the head down.
- Once the flames are out, cool burns with clean running water and get medical help.
Monthly check
Once a month, check that the pouch is on the wall where people can reach it, the tapes hang free and are not tucked in, and the pouch is clean and undamaged. After a blanket has been used on a fire, replace it.
