Product details

ABC powder fire extinguisher with MAP 50 powder

The FireSpray ABC powder fire extinguisher is our middle grade, made for offices, schools, coaching centres, showrooms and commercial floors. It is filled with MAP 50 dry chemical powder, which has more active powder than our MAP 40 home model, so it knocks down a fire faster where more people, furniture and paper are in one place. It is ISI marked, pressure-tested at our factory and covered by a 5-year warranty from the invoice date. It comes in 1 kg, 2 kg, 4 kg, 6 kg and 9 kg; select a size above to see its price (plus GST).

What it protects in a commercial space

  • Class A: desks, files, cartons, curtains, upholstery and plastic fittings.
  • Class B: petrol, diesel, oil, paint and cleaning solvents kept in stores or near a generator.
  • Class C: LPG and other flammable gases, such as in a pantry or canteen gas line.

It can also be used on fires in wiring, sockets and appliances; switch off the power first if it is safe to do so. Two things it is not meant for: cooking-oil fires, which need a K-type fire extinguisher, and server or UPS rooms, where powder residue can damage equipment. For those rooms, add a CO2 fire extinguisher or a clean agent extinguisher.

Why MAP 50 suits offices and schools

The MAP number is the share of active mono-ammonium phosphate in the powder. MAP 50 sits between our everyday and heavy-duty grades. It gives busy commercial floors faster knock-down than MAP 40, without paying for the industrial MAP 90 grade where the risk does not need it.

Grade Best for Product
MAP 40 Homes, flats, small shops ABC type fire extinguisher
MAP 50 Offices, schools, showrooms, commercial floors This product
MAP 90 Factories, warehouses, fuel and generator areas 6 kg ABC fire extinguisher (MAP 90)

Which size for which room?

Size Good for
1 kg and 2 kg Reception desks, cabins, company vehicles
4 kg Office floors, shops, classrooms (most popular)
6 kg Lobbies, corridors, staircases, larger showrooms
9 kg Stores, basements, parking

Place units near exits and staircases at a height staff can reach easily. A floor stand works well in glass-walled offices where wall drilling is not allowed. See the full range on the ABC fire extinguisher page.

How staff should use it

  1. Pull the safety pin.
  2. Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire.
  3. Squeeze the handle.
  4. Sweep from side to side.

Raise the alarm first, keep an exit behind you and leave if the fire grows. Powder can make visibility poor in a small room, so step back once the fire is out. Our free fire-safety training lets staff practise this before a real emergency.

Monthly check, no yearly refills

Once a month, check that the gauge needle is in the green zone, the pin and seal are intact, and the cylinder has no dents or rust. Your ABC powder fire extinguisher stays factory-sealed, so there are no yearly refills; if a covered unit fails, we replace it. Read more on refill vs replace.

All questions
Is an ABC powder fire extinguisher with MAP 50 good for an office?

Yes. MAP 50 is the grade we recommend for offices, schools, showrooms and commercial floors. It knocks down fires faster than MAP 40 without the cost of the industrial MAP 90 grade.

How many extinguishers does an office floor need?

It depends on floor area and layout. Place units near exits and staircases within easy reach; on orders of 10 or more we prepare a free placement plan as per IS 2190.

Can I use it in the office server room?

It is better not to, because the powder leaves a residue on equipment. Use a CO2 or clean agent extinguisher for server and UPS rooms.

Does the powder make a mess after use?

Yes, dry powder settles on surfaces and needs to be cleaned up. That is why we suggest CO2 or clean agent units for rooms with costly electronics.

What is an ABC fire extinguisher used for?

It puts out Class A fires (wood, paper, cloth), Class B fires (petrol, oil, paint) and Class C fires (LPG and other gases). It can also be used on electrical equipment fires; switch off the power first if it is safe to do so.

What does ABC mean in a fire extinguisher?

ABC refers to the three fire classes it covers: A (solids), B (flammable liquids) and C (flammable gases). It is not an abbreviation of a chemical name.
