In India, an extinguisher left in the open on a terrace, parking ramp or factory yard faces monsoon rain and harsh summer sun. A weatherproof box keeps the cylinder, gauge and label in good condition. There are two options: a box for a wall or pillar, and a box with stand that sits on the ground. Which extinguisher to put inside
For most outdoor risks, a 6 kg ABC fire extinguisher is a good choice. Near the sea, a stainless steel ABC fire extinguisher resists corrosion better. Installation tips
- Fit the box where people can see it and reach it quickly, close to exits and on the escape route.
- Mount the wall box at a height an adult can open and lift from easily.
- Place the box with stand on firm, level ground, away from vehicle paths.
- Keep the front of the box clear. Never stack goods, bikes or bins in front of it.
Monthly check
Once a month, open the box and check that the door opens freely and there is no rust or water inside. Then check the extinguisher: gauge needle in green, pin and seal intact, and no dents or rust on the cylinder.
